Before your lights go up, it’s worth giving the outside of your home a little attention. Here’s what to check.
Clean out your gutters
Roofline lights usually clip right along the gutter line. If your gutters are packed with fall leaves, water backs up, freezes, and puts extra weight on everything hanging there. Clean gutters drain the way they should, which means less ice building up right where your lights hang.
Wash off the green and black streaks
Algae and mildew love the shady side of Central PA homes, and the staining almost always shows up right below the gutters and along the roofline. That’s exactly where your lights will be shining. A soft wash removes it at the root without blasting your siding with high pressure, so your house looks clean and bright behind the lights.
Take a look at the roof
Those dark streaks running down your shingles are usually algae, not dirt. Soft washing the roof cleans them up safely and helps extend the life of your shingles. A clean roof with a crisp line of lights along the edge is a whole different look from the street.
